Canyoning
Due to its extraordinary geology, Sierra de Guara, with over 500 canyons, is a reference point for canyoning in Europe. A very special activity, in the heart of nature, descending mountain rivers in an astonishing and breathtaking landscape. There are canyons suitable for all ages and levels of difficulty, including legendary canyons such as Formiga, La Peonera, Mascún or Las Gorgas Negras. Expert guides can provide the necessary equipment and guarantee safety during the descent.
Sport climbing
Although relatively recently discovered, the Sierra de Guara is a paradise for sport climbing with nearly 300 itineraries, an activity of adventure and beauty in full contact with nature. Its steep orography includes a multitude of very unique walls of great verticality, which meet the expectations of all age’s climbers. With already mythical enclaves such as Cuca Bellostas, Ciudadela, Puntarrón, San Martín del Alcanadre or Peña Calma in Balced, the vertical plumb lines of La Virgen, the escarpments near Rodellar and the Mascún windows.


Bike routes
For lovers of two wheels, the Sierra and Canyons of Guara Natural Park offers all kinds of opportunities: family routes for adults and children to enjoy, such as Santa María de Dulcis or the Vineyard Route, cycle tourism on roads with little traffic such as the Tour de Guara, road cycling such as the Alquezar circular route, enduro like La Cunarda and many other possibilities
Motorcycle Rides
Guara Somontano offers endless possibilities for motorcycle lovers such as, among others, the Sierra de Guara circular road, shorter routes such as the ascent to the Mesón de Sevil or the route of Bierge dam and Alcanadre river. Some stages of the Trans Pyrenees route go across the region.


Hiking
Hiking trails are endless, many of them with a low level of difficulty that allows everyone to enjoy them and others more demanding, but all of them covering a landscape of singular beauty and interest. The Alquezar Pasarelas (walkways), the Pacos de Morrano and Tamara fountain, the royal of Mascún and the three sections of the pre-Pyrenean trail that run through the territory can be highlighted.
Parque Cultural del Rio Vero
The Río Vero Cultural Park is one of the most emblematic spaces in Spain, recognized for its cultural, archaeological and landscape richness. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, this park stands out especially for its shelters with cave paintings, it houses more than 60 decorated shelters, one of the most important concentrations of rock art in Europe, among which the Abrigo de Chimiachas, an exceptional example of Levantine art, the Abrigo del Arpán, a combination of Levantine and schematic art, the Cave of the Fuente del Trucho, Palaeolithic art, and the Abrigo de Regacens, a combination of Levantine and schematic art.


Bird watching
Declared as S.P.A. (special protection area for birds), it is relatively easy to spot bearded vultures, little bustards, kingfishers, long-eared owls, red kites, griffon vultures, bee-eaters or rollers. There are 15 ornithological routes that allow you to explore the different ecosystems: rocky, river or steppe. Unique spectacles to enjoy are the arrival of the cranes in November and their departure in March. Last but not least, the presence of swallows and sparrows that have already become our gentle neighbours.
Astronomical observations
The low light pollution favours astronomical observation throughout the year and you can easily distinguish, among others, Sirius and Altair, the brightest stars in our hemisphere, Pegasus, the Geminids or the Perseids (tears of Saint Lawrence). Various programmed activities such as workshops or commented observations in unique enclaves are carried out mostly in summer. Some significant spots are outfitted with benches, sun loungers and information panels to ease the observation.


Cultural visits
In addition to the historic complex of Alquezar with its impressive Collegiate Church, which is considered one of the most beautiful towns in the world, it is worth visiting the cathedral of Barbastro with its magnificent vault that looks like a starry sky and its altarpiece of the main altar, one of whose authors is Damián Forment, and many other monuments such of San Fructuoso in Bierge with its thirteenth century mural paintings or the hermitage of Santa María de Dulcis in a beautiful natural setting.
Hunting and fishing.
The dense forests that extend throughout the region favor the existence of hunting reserves, mainly wild boar, deer, roe deer and partridge that offer unique and exciting challenges.
In the heart of the Sierra de Guara, there is a vibrant aquatic ecosystem brimming with trout, carp, barbel and more, offering unparalleled fishing experiences amidst breathtaking scenery.


Wine and food routes
The D.O. Somontano has numerous wineries that offer visits to the facilities, walks through the vineyards either on foot or by bicycle, tastings, gourmet menus or pairings. Also worth mentioning is the production of oil where modern industries coexist with traditional oil mills. To this must be added the excellent gastronomy of the area with numerous and well-known restaurants, not forgetting Quesos de Radiquero, that offers tastings of its excellent cheeses as well as allowing you to see the facilities of the cheese factory from the visitors space.
Unique events
Throughout the year, a whole range of romerias and popular festivities are held. Unique events to highlight may be: the Ultra-Trail Guara Somontano, 102 km long, one of the most spectacular ultra races in Europe, along with its more affordable modalities of 50, 30 and 17 km; the Motoretroguara, a meeting of old motorcycles in Colungo or the Noche de las Ánimas (Night of dead spirits) in Radiquero, where the whole town is transformed to evoke the customs and traditions of the cult of the dead.
